Is A Dual Flush Toilet Worth The Investment?

Dual Flush Toilets: The Pros & Cons

Toilets are arguably some of the hardest working members in any household. To make their jobs a little bit easier, many people consider upgrading to powerful dual-flush models, but are they really worth the investment?

Pros

Dual-flush toilets might seem like they’d use more water, but in reality, they are designed to save on water consumption. These toilets come with two flush settings: one for liquid waste and one for solids.

Because they offer greater control over how much water your toilet uses per flush, you can save more money in the long run if you own a dual-flush model. In the United States, toilets use 1.6 gallons of water per flush; the “light” setting on a dual-flush model uses half of that amount.

Cons

Some people find that flushing a dual-flush toilet is harder; children, the elderly and disabled people may struggle to apply enough pressure on the toilet tank’s “flusher,” which is actually two buttons.

The initial price tag plus installation costs can also be significantly higher than single-flush toilets. If you are in the market for a new toilet but don’t have a big budget, then a dual-flush may not be the best option. However, if you can cover the initial costs, the money you save on your water bill will likely be worthwhile.

Replacements may also be more difficult with dual-flush models, as they are built differently than the standard American single-flush toilet. If you ever run into trouble and want to fix the toilet yourself, it could be harder to locate the right parts for a dual-flush.
