Springtime Plumbing Tips

Spring is officially here and it’s looking like temperatures will
be getting warmer quicker this year than in years past. That means it’s
time to start getting your home’s plumbing system ready for the
new season before you’re stuck with headaches and potential disasters
down the road. After all, a little bit of maintenance goes a long way!

Before you get carried away checking items off your spring cleaning list
and getting the yard ready, tackle a few of the following plumbing chores.
Trust us, you’ll be glad you did!

  1. Turn on indoor and outdoor faucets and check for leaks. If you’ve
had them turned off for the winter, you may notice some air in the lines
which is normal. The problems come about if you see cracked fixtures or
    water leaks.

  2. Check yard drains, gutters and downspouts. Make sure they’re free
of debris and are successfully carrying water away from your home and
foundation. The last thing you need is a clogged gutter causing water
to wreak havoc on your home.

  3. Since you’ll be spending time outside this season tending to your
garden, watering your lawn or washing your car it’s necessary to
reattach garden hoses and check to make sure the hose bibs are working
    correctly.

  4. Is your basement prone to flooding when it rains? You know how the saying
goes “April flowers bring May showers,” so now is a good time
to get your sump pumps up and running.
