Simple Ways to Save Water

On average, 10 gallons of your water footprint (or 14% of your indoor water use) is lost to leaks each day. Pair this with the number of gallons wasted each day and you might think twice the next time you leave the faucet running.

Aside from switching to low-flow shower heads, faucets and water-efficient toilets there’s lots you can be doing around your home to conserve. Not only is it beneficial to the environment, but these tips can help you save on water bills each year too!

  • Even though they can be more relaxing, refrain from taking baths. A full bathtub requires up to 70 gallons of water. Take a 5-minute shower instead.

  • Test your shower head by placing a one-gallon bucket underneath it. If it fills up in less than 20 seconds consider swapping it out with one that has a WaterSense label.

  • Turning off the water while washing your hair in the shower can save up to 150 gallons of water each month.

  • You can save up to 4 gallons of water per minute by turning the water off while brushing your teeth.

  • Toilet leaks can be silent. Be sure to test yours at least once a year.
