How to Fix Sweating Pipes

Were your pipes sweating more than you this past summer? It could have just been because the air surrounding the pipes was much warmer than the water inside them or it could be a sign that you have a leak. Either way, water dripping from your home’s plumbing system can create major headaches for homeowners.

If you suspect that there is a leak, you should call in a plumber right away. This is especially important now that temperatures are dropping – freezing pipes can become your worst enemy. However, if there is no leak present and the problem doesn’t seem to be too severe you may just need to add some insulation.

You can purchase thick adhesive “drip” tape from your local home improvement store and apply it to any problem pipes. Just be sure to wipe them dry before applying the tape. You can kill two birds with one stone by adding insulation to your pipes to protect them from freezing and cracking this winter and eliminating condensation, or sweating.
